Job DescriptionYou will be working in the Ocean Core Infrastructure team. You will be working within Ocean Core Infrastructure. This 10 man team is a multidisciplinary mix of DBAs, Unix Admins and Platform Automation Engineers who research, design and maintain the infrastructure that supports Ocado’s UK Live businesses.
As a Platform Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for improving and better-automating processes currently undertaken manually. This could mean anything from minor bash scripting to creating a fully unit-tested Django Web UI and REST API which is deployed to OpenStack inside a Docker container.
You’ll enjoy being part of the team if you like: learning fast (through experimentation, self-motivation etc); being autonomous but able to collaborate (sharing knowledge is important to us); craftsmanship and innovation (we never stop questioning how we can be better).
How will I spend my days
Automation of manual activities
Technical requirements gathering, design, prototyping, implementation, testing, and ongoing support of technical solutions to Business and Infrastructure problems
Writing comprehensive documentation for peers and other stakeholders
Support of production systems as required outside standard working hours and participation in 24x7 on-call rota
What do I need to know
Strong Linux skills
Experience with Unix Shell Scripting
Python programming experience
￼￼￼Django and/or REST API programming experience
Ability to quickly familiarise yourself with new technologies, be they programmatic or UI-driven.
Configuration management (e.g Puppet)
Version control software (e.g. git)
Virtualisation/container technologies such as Docker / Kubernetes
Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Maths, Physics, Engineering or related subject
